Working from the terminal with Claude Code
A developer takes a task, opens its branch and reports progress without leaving the editor, and the assistant works only with that developer’s permissions.
A developer spends most of the day in the editor and the terminal and switches to MyWay only to take a task, change a status or write a comment. The goal is to remove those switches: telling Claude Code "take MYW-12" or "file this bug on the board" should be enough, while the record stays in MyWay under the same workflow rules.
What you get
- Taking a task, opening a branch, changing a status and commenting from the terminal, in one sentence
- Whatever the assistant does appears in MyWay under your name, in the task history and the audit log
- The assistant’s reach is limited to your own permissions and can be cut off in one click at any time
Steps
- 1In Settings > Access tokens, create a token named "Claude Code". Set Scope to Read and write and Expiration to 90 days. Take the token with "Copy"; it is not shown again.
- 2On the MyWay CLI card on the same tab, pick your operating system and run the install command in the terminal. Then connect to your address with myway login --url; it asks for the token.
- 3Check with myway whoami that you are connected as the right user to the right server. myway mine lists the open work assigned to you.
- 4Run myway claude-setup. Restart Claude Code; the instructions load in the new session.
- 5Tell Claude Code "take MYW-12 and start working on it". Claude runs myway start MYW-12, which adds you to the task’s assignees, moves it to the board’s first "in progress" status and opens the branch. If the workflow does not allow that move (a transition rule, a WIP limit, a field that has to be filled in), MyWay’s error comes back as it is: the task keeps its status and no branch is opened, but you have already been added to its assignees.
- 6When the work is done, say "I opened the merge request, move the task to review and comment on what changed". Claude changes the status and writes the comment with myway move and myway comment.
- 7For your team: to add the same commands to the project for colleagues using Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot, run myway agent-guide --append AGENTS.md and commit the file. Each developer still connects with their own token.
Why a personal token and not a shared account: the assistant appears as the token’s owner on every request, so the answer to who changed what is still a person, and permissions come from that person’s role. A shared "bot" account erases that trail and hands everyone the same broad access. If the assistant only reads and summarizes (say, "summarize what is assigned to me" in the morning), give it a read-only token; even if it misunderstands, it cannot change anything.
